CFWheels ORM and Why It's Mo' Betta

MasterControl, Inc. (map)

Selected By: David McGuigan

Join us Wednesday, February 10th to see how the ORM in ColdFusion on Wheels can help you decimate development time and keep your code kemptalicious as Chris Peters gives us a guided tour of the acclaimed Wheels "model layer".

What Chris'll tread:
The Wheels approach to ORM
The CRUD lifecycle
Business rule validation
Adding code to respond to events
Associating tables in plain English
Super-readable dynamic methods
Magic tricks ( not associated with the Apple iPad )

Chris, the world's biggest fan ( figuratively ) of the ColdFusion on Wheels framework, has been developing CFML apps since the MX days. He leads the Wheels evangelism team, builds and maintains the framework's website, and is currently masterminding an open source portal framework built on Wheels called Administrivia.

It was great to get a hands on with Wheels and another ORM after Neil's great preso. I find myself strangely attracted to the highly-readable Wheels API design and its seemingly minimal learning curve. CFML is really heating up lately.

I'm a newb to ColdFusion and just wanted to get more into it, so there was a lot that went over my head, but it was also a great overview to CFWheels. I too have tried to work with Zend Framework and HATED it, CFWHEELS looks to be a lot more intuitive.

Really enjoyed the presentation last night! Found the general CFWheels information more interesting than the ORM, especially the stuff for forms. I was going to play with ColdBox as my next "hobby" project, but I think I'll check this out instead! Thanks again!

Interesting preso, interesting framework. A company or developer looking for a new framework should definitely give this one a look. Also, I think that somebody already familiar with Ruby on Rails, and trying to transition to ColdFusion, would be really excited. Too bad this wasn't available a year or three ago--I probably would have looked at it much more closely then. I still may at some point in the future, but probably not right now.

Great Preso. Wish I could have seen the end but had to leave early...

I haven't been to very many meetings, but this one seemed to go on for too long--at least longer than I expected it to.
